SUMMARY:Movement Improvisation Class 21.9
DESCRIPTION:Description\nThe movement improvisation class will start with a teacher-led opening circle and a short introduction of the teacher and participants to create a safe space together. This is followed by a guided warm-up with music. All activities are voluntary. Participants are encouraged to listen to their own body and follow their needs.\nThe class continues in pairs and small groups with teacher-led exercises with clear instructions and structure to support dancing together and discovering new expressions. This may include experimentation and encouragement of safe ways to experiment and play with the unknown.\nThe class will usually build towards dancing together and improvisation by the whole group. We encourage listening to the body and following needs\, e.g. sometimes by watching others (witnessing) and taking breaks when necessary.\nFinally\, the teacher facilitates a closing circle where there is an opportunity to reflect and listen to others. \nThe classes will be led by professionals with a background in dance\, theatre\, disability\, pedagogy and accessibility\, all with different artistic-pedagogical backgrounds and a history of working with Kaaos Company. The classes are open to all. \nThe classes encourage a wide range of individual expression and styles – there is no one way! Each class lasts 2 hours\, including toilet and snack breaks and a starting and ending circle. \nThe classes encourage a wide range of individual expression and styles – there is no one way! SUMMARY:XDF: performance - FIMD (DK) & Kris Lenzo (USA) & Kaaos Company (FI)
DESCRIPTION:The performance of the X Dance Festival at the Caisa Cultural Center today at 6 PM is sold out!\n\n3 performances: FIMD (DK): Walking care-freely through troubles\, Kris Lenzo (USA): Method\, Kaos Company: Sister \nFIMD (DK): Walking care-freely through troubles (20min)\nSolo\, Dancer: Sissel Phul Stauersbøl. Choreographer Paulina Rewucka\, in collaboration with Sissel and Artistic Director Janne Weidinger. Music designer: Dave Black \nThis work is about chosen solitude and feelings which occur in the realm between a child and becoming a grown up. It is an attempt to approach the rollercoaster of a lifetime. \n“Number 1 girl. The pump is out of order. These hands are made for walking. Is there anything you would wanna say to your surroundings or to the world if you would have space and they would listen? No matter what you’re going through\, it’s gonna get better at some point. Well… we’ve all gone through something tough before but you will find your way again. What do you say when I say fan-club? K-pop. Korea… …here I come! Stay yourself. Don’t care too much what other people say. Don’t change for other people.”  \nKris Lenzo (USA): Method (4min)\nFrom Choreographer Julia Cox- As I began working with Kris for the first time\, I noticed how different we were in how we think and move when it comes to dance. So I learned how to adapt to his method of moving and learning\, hence the name\, “Method.” It was a great learning experience and working with someone so athletic who is also a wheelchair user. I helped create this piece with both our methods of creative process. \nKaos Company: Sister\, I can feel it in my bones (Finland) (45min)\n“Talking about the floor\, I just realised\, you know\, like\, people are always saying if you fall you’re going to break your bones\, which is obvious.”\nSister\, I can feel it in bones is an autobiographical\, comedic and occasionally serious work by two performers. The performance travels into a rich world of laughter\, wisdom and the desire to be at peace as part of the spectrum of life\, as one’s self.\n“We are small like diamonds.”\nSister\, I can feel it in my bones is performed by dancer\, actress Christelle Dreyer from South Africa and dance artist Noora Västinen from Finland.\nThe performance is directed by dance and theatre artist Jonna Lehto.\nLanguage: Finnish\, English\nImage: Christelle Dreyer \n👉 To buy tickets\, please visit the ticketing page (external link).

SUMMARY:XDF: Panel Discussion: Silva Laukkanen (FIN)\, Ingeborg Dugstad Sanders (NO)\, Janne Kristensen (DK)\, Veera Suvalo Grimberg (SW)
DESCRIPTION:Panel Discussion: Building a Nordic Network for Inclusive Dance \nThis panel introduces a new initiative to develop a collaborative network among inclusive dance organizations in Norway\, Finland\, Sweden\, and Denmark. While each country has made significant strides in advancing inclusive dance education and artistry\, much of this work has occurred in isolation. Through this partnership\, we aim to share knowledge\, resources\, and best practices to address shared challenges and build a more connected\, sustainable\, and accessible dance field across the Nordic region. \nPanelists will discuss how this collaboration fosters long-term support structures\, strengthens artistic exchange\, and amplifies the cultural impact of inclusive dance. The session will explore practical strategies for advancing inclusive dance education\, creating unified frameworks\, and modeling international collaboration in a field often marked by fragmentation. This project seeks not only to deepen regional ties but also to offer a replicable model of inclusive\, cross-border cooperation for the global dance and disability community. \nThis event is free.

SUMMARY:XDF: Performance - REVolutions Dance (USA) and Ihanat Company (FI)
DESCRIPTION:Two performances – REVolutions Dance: The shape of time and Ihanat Company :2×2 \nThe Shape of Time (8min) \nDancers: Sam Kedziora & Dwayne Scheuneman Choreographer: Frank Chaves Music: Mark Danziger & Aaron Wunsch  \n“The Shape of Time” was originally created from the long friendship of a disabled military veteran and a mother of two\, both returning to the dance world after stepping away for some years to tend to life’s other demands. It follows a journey of trust\, friendship\, and the collaboration of two people who use dance to encourage us all to accept and love one another. \nIn this performance\, the role of the mother dancer is performed by another artist\, honoring the original collaboration while acknowledging the reality that many mothers face—the difficulty of traveling long distances and being away from their children. \nIhanat Company: 2 x 2 (45-60min) \nWorking group: Sofia Johansson\, liris Laisi\, Elisa Lejeune\, Vappu Virkkula\, Riina Hannuksela\, Aarne Rikonen\, Riitta Röpelinen\, Virva Talonen\, Ina Niemelä Goofing around. \nA skull. It felt cute. 1 looked like a princess. A bit awkward. When we danced\, I braided your hair. This turned into a black wolf character. Zombie\, an evil dance. I could write a new story. When the fish watch. I liked everything. I am tired. Embarrassing. A cosy sleeping nest. The dance performance “2 x 2” by the Ihanat Company is built around two duets\, each inspired by encountering the other dancer through movement. In the choreographic process\, the experience of dancing together has been explored through a variation of mirror exercises\, touch\, and working with various fabric materials. The long-term process has given rise to two unique\, improvisation-based duets that\, in “2 × 2\, are layered side by side\, intertwined\, and overlapping. The choreography takes shape anew\, in part\, with each performance event. \nThere will be a Q&A after the performance. \n\n👉To buy tickets\, please visit the ticketing page (external link).

SUMMARY:XDF: Workshop - Monika Pozek / MAD Kolektiv (ES)
DESCRIPTION:Workshop: The old idea \nDescription\nThis workshop is a creative exploration of space\, movement\, and memory—a chance to refresh how we move and how we think about movement. Through collaboration in small groups\, we’ll discover new ways of moving\, challenge habitual patterns\, and encourage participants to break free from their own expectations. \nUsing Oblique Strategies\, we’ll shift perspective\, loosen structure\, and invite unpredictability into the creative process. We’ll explore how to rework\, edit\, or even dismantle movement phrases—without remorse or judgment. \nThis is a space for play\, risk\, and fun. \n👉 To buy tickets\, please visit the ticketing page (external link).

SUMMARY:Movement Improvisation Class 25.5.
