Workshop: Exlopration in early American Modern Dance

Description

Deb Goodman’s workshop will focus on the work of early American Modern Dance vanguards, Martha Graham, Doris Humphrey, and José Limon.

In this workshop we will learn modified excerpts from Martha Graham’s “Lamentation” and José Límon’s “Missa Brevis”. Dancers will warm and prepare for this work through a series of slow, meditative phrases grounded in the principles of breath rhythms, movement from the body’s center, shift-of-weight, spiral twists, and oppositional motion, including center and off-center balance
